Fijet tourism’s most respected accolade has arrived in southern Croatia

According to GA Committee, EC and BofD Decisions, 2nd Golden Apple Award Ceremony was held in Cavtat-Konavle.

On May 29, The FIJET Golden Apple Award was officially presented to The destination CAVTAT-KONAVLE, Croatia at a ceremony held on the Cavtat picturesque waterfront, beside the monument of the renowned painter Vlaho Bukovac. The Award represents an important international acknowledgment of the exceptional tourism values of Cavtat and Konavle and further strengthens the destination’s position on the global tourism map.
So, Cavtat joined to the garden of Fijet Golden Apple awards what has been bestowed to the world’s most renowned and sustainable travel destinations. from 1970 till these days.
The event brought together Fijet Official Delegation, composed by Tijani Haddad, Tina Eterovic Cubrilo, Salah Attia, Najib Senhadji, Delal T.Atamdede, Mohamed Attia, Marijana Rebic, tourism professionals, local officials, Fijet Croatia members and members of the community to celebrate the achievement.

The distinguished guests and FIJET delegates were welcomed by Frano Herendija, Director of the Cavtat-Konavle Tourist Board, Bozo Lasic, Mayor of the Municipality of Konavle, Tijani Haddad, The Fijet President, Tina Eterovic Cubrilo, Vice President of FIJET and President of FIJET Croatia and Plamen Starev, Chair of the FIJET Awards Committee.

In their addresses, the speakers highlighted the significance of this international recognition for Cavtat and Konavle, emphasizing the destination’s commitment to preserving its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, authenticity, and hospitality while continuously developing sustainable tourism.
This year’s selection highlights Cavtat and Konavle as an outstanding example of responsible tourism development, balancing visitor growth with the preservation of local traditions, landscapes and quality of life.
Mayor of Cavtat- Konavle, Bozo Lasic, praised the collective efforts behind the region’s tourism success.
« The synergy between municipal services, tourism professionals and the Konavle Tourist Board has delivered excellent results. I am delighted that this award has come to Konavle and would like to thank Tourist Board Director Frano Herendija for his dedicated work, » Bozo Lasic said.

Frano Herendija, Director of the Konavle Tourist Board, noted that Cavtat and Konavle have received numerous awards over the years for their authenticity, hospitality and well-maintained public spaces.
However, he stressed that the Golden Apple carries particular significance.
« This award confirms that high-quality tourism can be developed while preserving local traditions and protecting the environment. That balance between development and sustainability is what is most valued today, » Herendija said.

Speaking on the meaning and importance of the Fijet and Fijet Croatia, on behalf of FIJET’s evaluation committee, Tina Eterovic Cubrilo, who initiated the proposal for Cavtat-Konavle, explained that the decision followed a detailed review process, including a presentation and an on-site visit to Konavle. The assessment confirmed that the destination met all the criteria required for the prestigious honour.

In his speech, about tourism importance The President Tijani Haddad told; “I visited Croatia so many times with its ancient cities and historical values, natural beauty, heritage. I am delighted to be here. I am proud of Cavtat -Konavle what deserved the Golden Apple Award very much with its synergy of natural, historical and cultural beauty, its traditon and implementation with modern trends of tourism that respect its nature, respect culture,, Tijani Haddad pointed that Cavtat Konavle proudly joins this distinguished list, adding its own unique story to the Golden Apple’s legacy. The Golden Apple awarded to Cavtat-Konavle is more than a prize, it is global recognition of the city’s beauty, authenticity, and sustainable vision.

The award further strengthens the reputation of Cavtat and Konavle as one of Croatia’s leading tourism destinations, renowned for their combination of natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, authentic traditions and commitment to sustainable development.
As tourism destinations around the world increasingly seek to balance growth with environmental and cultural preservation, the recognition places Cavtat and Konavle among a select group of international destinations viewed as models for the future.

The ceremony was enriched by a vibrant cultural and musical programme. Members of Čilipi Folklore presented traditional songs and dances of the Konavle region, showcasing the area’s rich customs and heritage. The audience also enjoyed performances by jazz vocalist Maja Grgić-Novaković, whose album was nominated for a Porin Award in the Best Jazz Music Album category, and renowned jazz pianist Teo Martinović, whose music added a special atmosphere to this memorable celebration.
